Burkina Faso/Humanitarian Aid: News in the embezzlement of public funds case involving several billion euros

In Burkina Faso, two individuals implicated in a major public funds embezzlement case within the Ministry of Humanitarian Action have been detained on the orders of the prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga I High Court.

Local media report that these suspects were taken into custody and placed under a detention order on Friday, November 8, 2024. In addition, their high-value assets were seized as part of the legal proceedings.

The prosecutor shared these updates during a press conference, revealing that preliminary estimates suggest a loss exceeding three billion CFA francs.

Among the seized assets, cash totalling 159.8 million CFA francs will be held in an ANAGRASC (National Agency for Management and Recovery of Seized Assets) account.

Luxury vehicles and other seized items are valued at around 471.25 million CFA francs, while real estate assets are estimated to be worth over 1.5 billion CFA francs, based on preliminary assessments.

The embezzled funds were intended to support internally displaced people affected by terrorism in the country.

Earlier, on November 4, President Captain Ibrahim Traoré condemned this misuse of resources, lamenting the lack of patriotism and calling it a sabotage of the dedicated efforts of conscientious Burkinabè.
