Deadly Bomb blast at Pakistan railway station Kills 25, injures dozens

At least 25 people were killed and around 50 others injured when a bomb exploded at a railway station in Quetta, Balochistan province, Pakistan. The attack occurred as a morning train was preparing to depart for Peshawar, with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claiming responsibility for what police say was a suicide bombing.

Senior police official Muhammad Baloch reported that the bomber carried 6-8 kg of explosives. Casualties included both civilians and military personnel.

Videos circulating online show the moment of the explosion, followed by harrowing scenes of injured individuals amid station debris.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of devastation. Abdul Jabbar, injured in the blast, recounted, “It was like judgment day.” Muhammad Sohail, who arrived shortly after, saw “everything destroyed” and people “screaming for help.”

Balochistan’s chief minister condemned the attack, calling those responsible « worse than animals » and vowing justice. Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq labelled the perpetrators “enemies of humanity.”

The attack underscores ongoing instability in resource-rich yet underdeveloped Balochistan, where a surge in violence stems from separatist demands for independence.

The province’s proximity to Iran and Afghanistan further complicates its security landscape.
