Barça have found Robert Lewandowski’s successor
Barça is already thinking about the post-Lewandowski era and has even found a replacement for the Polish striker.
The summer transfer window is officially closed in Europe, especially in Spain. However, some clubs are already preparing for upcoming transfer windows. This is the case for Barça, who had a relatively quiet summer market but is now anticipating the potential departure of Robert Lewandowski. The Blaugrana club has already identified the player who should succeed the Polish international as the focal point of their attack.
Barça is off to an almost perfect start this season. Except for the defeat against AS Monaco in the Champions League last Thursday (2-1), the club has been flawless in La Liga. Ahead of their match against Villarreal this Sunday (6:30 PM), Barça (1st, 15 points) is on a streak of five consecutive victories in the Spanish league this season.
This impressive record is not only due to Lamine Yamal (3 goals, 4 assists in La Liga) but also to Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 4 goals in 5 La Liga matches. However, Barça is not immune to a potential departure of the former Bayern Munich striker in upcoming transfer windows, which has led the club to start targeting his successor already.
Barça could have lost Robert Lewandowski during the summer transfer window. However, the Polish striker turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed his desire to see out his contract, which runs until June 2026. According to SPORT, FC Barcelona did not wait for that deadline to begin searching for his successor.
According to the Catalan media, Barça has its sights set on Erling Haaland, who might leave Manchester City due to the « trial of the century. » The English club could potentially face a suspension from all European competitions. However, the Norwegian international isn’t Barça’s only target to succeed Robert Lewandowski. SPORT reports that the Catalan club has also shortlisted Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting Lisbon) and Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig). Nonetheless, Barça will only sign one of the three strikers.
