Burkina Faso launches high-level anti-corruption initiative between state audit bodies

Ouagadougou, May 21, 2025 – Burkina Faso’s High Authority for State Control and Anti-Corruption (ASCE-LC) and the Court of Auditors (CC) officially launched the “Days of Reflection and Partnership” (J2R/ASCE-CC) today, marking a major step in strengthening financial governance.

The event, held under the patronage of the Transitional Legislative Assembly President Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, aims to enhance collaboration between the two institutions to ensure transparent and accountable management of public resources.

The initiative seeks to align internal (ASCE-LC) and external (CC) oversight mechanisms to better detect, prevent, and penalize financial misconduct.

The ASCE-LC focuses on improving public service efficiency and combating corruption across government, private sector, and civil society, while the Court of Auditors oversees public accounts and holds state officials accountable for financial mismanagement.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Bougouma stressed the urgency of the partnership: “Every mismanaged franc, every corrupt act, undermines our fight against poverty and our efforts to improve citizens’ lives. We must foster a culture of integrity and accountability.”

ASCE-LC Director General Lassané Compaoré emphasized the need for structured coordination: “Only through harmonized strategies and sustained collaboration can we ensure effective governance.”

The forum will establish joint action plans, identify systemic vulnerabilities in public finance management, and develop monitoring mechanisms to ensure long-term impact. This initiative reflects Burkina Faso’s commitment to combating corruption amid ongoing economic and security challenges.
