Niger: Morocco offers 22.5 MW thermal power plant to Niamey to strengthen its energy capacities

The Kingdom of Morocco has shown solidarity towards Niger by graciously donating a thermal power plant with a capacity of 22.5 MW. This initiative aims to strengthen the country’s energy capabilities, addressing the growing electricity needs, especially in the capital city, Niamey.

Currently underway, the installation work of the power plant in Niamey has progressed significantly. Last week, the arrival of the nine necessary generators marked a key milestone in the project’s realization. Technicians estimate that the plant will be operational by the end of July, providing a new energy source to meet the needs of Nigelec.

With this new thermal power plant, Niamey’s electricity production capacity will be significantly increased. Morocco’s donation is a direct response to Niger’s energy challenges, aiming to reduce frequent power outages and provide more stable and reliable energy to the capital’s population and businesses.

Morocco’s gesture exemplifies concrete cooperation and solidarity among African countries. By donating this power plant, Morocco not only contributes to improving Niger’s energy infrastructure but also strengthens the partnership and friendship between the two nations.

By making this plant operational by the end of July, Niger will be able to more effectively meet Niamey’s electricity needs, thereby improving the quality of life for residents and supporting economic development. This action underscores the importance of regional cooperation in overcoming common challenges and promoting sustainable development in Africa.
