Euro 2024: Portugal vs. France, Cristiano Ronaldo warns The Blues

After a challenging qualification match against Slovenia, Portugal’s Seleção faces the Blues in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals. It was a tough evening for Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal on Monday. The Seleção clashed with Slovenia in the round of 16 of the European Championship, currently held in Germany. The Portuguese won the match through a tense penalty shootout (3-0) after a goalless draw over 120 minutes of play.

Having been eliminated in the round of 16 in the recent European Championship, Portugal managed to overcome this hurdle this time. This came after a thrilling match against Slovenia on Monday night at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. The 2016 European Champions could not break through Slovenia’s defense during the 90 minutes, nor in the 30 minutes of extra time.

Worse still, Cristiano Ronaldo saw his penalty saved by Jan Oblak in the first half of extra time (105th minute). Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa played a crucial role in the penalty shootout, stopping all three of Slovenia’s initial attempts.

Although the five-time Ballon d’Or winner broke into tears after his missed penalty, Ronaldo stated that Euro 2024 might be the last of his career. Additionally, the Al Nassr FC striker anticipates a tough match against The Blues in the quarter-finals but promises a fierce contest.

« We’re going to have a tough match against France, who are favorites in this competition, along with Germany and Spain, and we’re going to war », said the former Juventus striker.

« The team is doing well; it has been a boost of energy, and I will always give my best in this jersey. I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I missed the penalty, but I wanted to be the first to shoot because you have to take responsibility. I’ve never been afraid to take things head-on, and I will never give up », he added. Portugal and France will face each other on Friday, July 5th, at 9 PM at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
