Côte D’Ivoire: The Market for alcoholic energy drinks diverted by competition

Energy and alcoholic drinks in some African countries, such as Côte d’Ivoire, have fallen victim to counter-publicity imposed by competitors. The image and quality of these drinks have been called into question through false statements and fake reports made public on social media.

These actions against the aforementioned consumables have led Ivorian authorities to take drastic measures, suspending all operations related to certain brands of these drinks, which are nevertheless very popular among the population. This action by the Ivorian authorities has, for example, allowed competing companies with similar quality products to flood the market.

However, like any product intended for general and large-scale consumption, these demonized beverages have been regularly subjected to manufacturing standards to ensure consumer health. Moreover, these rejected products in Côte d’Ivoire circulate freely in other African countries and are consumed without incident to the life or health of loyal consumers.

It should be noted, however, that the abuse of anything is harmful, and mixing these alcoholic energy drinks with toxic products is not advised due to its detrimental effect on the consumer’s health. Hopefully, a solution will be found to this situation, which only favors competition and the free circulation of discouraged products.
