Commerce: Traders of alcoholic energy drinks still waiting

In October last year, following orders from Ivorian authorities to cease the commercialization of certain alcoholic energy drink brands, traders in Côte d’Ivoire and beyond are still awaiting the end of the suspension period to resume their income-generating activities.

It must be said that this period has lasted longer than expected since the government decision to suspend the importation and distribution of these products. Does this delay darken the prospects for the distributing company and the traders of these beverages? Or is there a possible resolution for relaunching these sought-after products in the market?

This situation arose not out of caution but rather due to the influence of unfair competition that meticulously planned the destabilization of these beverage brands to monopolize the market. The competition exploited the irresponsible behavior of some consumers to harm these companies, which were sanctioned with the suspension of their activities.

Indeed, young consumers chose to mix their drinks with drugs or other toxic substances, ignoring the highly dangerous and negative impacts this combination can have on their health. Many of these dangerous products continue to circulate in the market at the expense of those produced according to consumption standards.

It would be beneficial for all stakeholders to reach a consensus, including raising awareness among consumers about irresponsible behaviors. This is crucial for the economic development of countries and the economic well-being of small traders.
