Commerce: Energy and alcoholic drinks hold a prominent place in West Africa

Numerous brands of energy and alcoholic drinks, mostly produced in Europe, particularly in Germany and France, circulate in the African market. These beverages are especially popular among the younger generation due to their invigorating content, which is highly beneficial for athletes.

These drinks typically contain energizing ingredients such as caffeine, taurine, sugar or sweeteners, vitamins, and plant extracts (ginseng, guarana), and alcohol in the case of alcoholic versions. Consuming these beverages helps stimulate the consumers‘ energy and intellectual systems.

The manufacturers, concerned with preserving the health of their consumer base and the general population, have adhered to production and consumption standards for these products. They have also implemented measures prohibiting vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses from consuming these drinks.

However, some energy and alcoholic drink brands, like Vody Energy, have been targeted by propaganda, demonizing them in certain countries such as Côte d’Ivoire. This reflects the significant market presence these brands have achieved in a short time, dominating the consumer market.

This situation suggests sabotage among companies distributing these beverages in West Africa. Moreover, as often noted, excessive consumption of anything is harmful. It is also important to highlight that mixing these drinks with certain toxic substances or drugs like Viagra, Kadhafi, and Tramadol is very dangerous for health.

Besides their nutritional benefits, it is important to note that the commercialization of energy drinks has become a lucrative business for merchants, both wholesalers and retailers, who have made this activity their primary source of income.
