Togo: Initiatives to revitalize the tourism sector multiply

In Togo, initiatives to revitalize the tourism sector are on the rise. In a concerted effort to enhance the skills of tourism stakeholders and increase the sector’s competitiveness, a new ambitious project has been launched. Over a four-year period, this project aims to train approximately 40 tourism professionals, with a focus on developing entrepreneurial capacities.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Kossi Gbenyo Lamadoku, officially launched this initiative last weekend at a ceremony attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Muteber Kiliç. The project, titled « Improving the Entrepreneurial Capacities of Tourism Stakeholders for the Competitiveness of Togolese Tourism », also includes a study visit to Turkey. This visit will allow participants to immerse themselves in the best practices and innovations implemented in the Turkish tourism sector, renowned for its dynamism and success.

The training of the 40 tourism stakeholders will not be limited to theoretical knowledge acquisition. It will include practical workshops, mentoring sessions, and internships that will provide participants with the opportunity to develop concrete and directly applicable skills. The goal is to create an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation in the Togolese tourism sector.

The study visit to Turkey is a key element of this project. By exposing Togolese stakeholders to Turkey’s successful strategies and practices, the project aims to inspire and encourage the adoption of innovative and effective methods to attract more tourists to Togo. Participants will thus firsthand see how Turkey has leveraged its cultural and natural assets to become a leading tourist destination.

This project aligns with President Faure Gnassingbé’s broader vision for economic development and the promotion of Togo’s cultural wealth. By strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism hopes not only to increase the number of foreign visitors but also to enhance the overall tourist experience in the country.
