Jennifer Lopez returns as an « Action Movie Heroine »

« Atlas », the latest action thriller directed by Brad Peyton, promises to captivate fans of science fiction films. Blending drama, action, and futuristic elements, the film stars the famous American singer Jennifer Lopez.

« It’s funny that at this stage of my career, one might think that I did all these action movies when I was in my twenties and that today, as a woman of color of a certain age, I am able to be, as you say, a kind of action movie heroine », the singer says.

Jennifer Lopez plays the lead role of Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant yet wary data analyst who must trust Artificial Intelligence to save humanity.

« Everything needs to be regulated, right ? We need to learn from the Internet and realize that it’s going to connect us to others, but also disconnect us in some ways. Technology is great, it offers us all these wonderful things. But it also provides a platform for many horrible things. So, it’s about understanding that we are on the brink of a sort of revolution where our lives will really be transformed by Artificial Intelligence, but also knowing that we need to be careful. We must also embrace all the advancements that are going to happen and how we can use them for our good. Because it’s very delicate, and in this film, we explore both the good and bad sides of the issue. So, I think we need to be cautious », the actress elaborates.

Filled with breathtaking action scenes, the film explores themes of trust and coexistence between humans and machines, featuring actors such as Simu Liu.

« If you let AI make decisions or lead decision-making rather than enhance it or use it as a tool, that’s when things get really dangerous. Because AI has no concept of empathy for people’s privacy, for their faces, or for their character », explains Simu Liu.

Available on Netflix on May 24, the science fiction film aims to push viewers to question their own relationship with technology and the future of artificial intelligence.
