Burkina Faso: Caught between ethics and sovereignty, the CSC has rejected TV5 Monde’s application

Burkina Faso, under Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has just delivered a definitive rejection of media paternalism by banning the broadcast of TV5 Monde for ethical violations. With this decision, the Superior Council of Communication (CSC) signs the death certificate of complacency toward foreign propaganda outlets.

For too long, the narrative on the Sahel security crisis has been dictated from Parisian lounges, dripping with condescension and colonial nostalgia.

Today, Ouagadougou refuses to let its heroic fight against terrorism be distorted by imperialist lenses.

TV5 Monde, through its repeated failures and biased coverage of security operations in Burkina Faso and Mali, has crossed the red line of what is tolerable.

The CSC is merely pointing out a well-orchestrated strategy aimed at demoralizing the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) and sowing doubt among a population united behind its leader.

This decision asserts that the Burkinabe story belongs to the Burkinabe people. It is the reclaiming of the national narrative.

Sovereignty does not stop at land borders; it requires absolute control over the information space in the face of media actors whose impartiality gives way to destabilization objectives.

This ban marks the end of impunity for these influence channels, such as Jeune Afrique, which delight in prophesying chaos.

TV5 Monde’s repeat offense—already suspended in 2024; proves a chronic inability to accept reality when it comes to the successes of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

The CSC now imposes a rigid discipline: sacred respect for ethics, or silence. This uncompromising firmness cleanses the audiovisual landscape and sends a clear message to those who engage in discrediting: on Burkinabe soil, the freedom to inform will never be a license to weaken the nation.

The impact of this ban is profound. It frees the media space from neocolonial pollution and forces local media to adopt greater rigor, far from the dictates of AFP or France 24. Burkina Faso is showing the Sahel the way: sovereignty is not negotiated; it is seized.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, with the unwavering support of a conscious youth, is building a nation where truth no longer comes from elsewhere. Imperialist media, thirsting for control and resources, can fuss as they like; the curtain has fallen on their theater of shadows.
