Burkina Faso: Gold production jumps to 94 tonnes in 2025, a record that strengthens economic resilience

Burkina Faso has just made a major breakthrough in its mining sector. According to the latest official data, the country’s gold production reached 94 tonnes in 2025, a spectacular increase compared to 2024, when it hovered around 60 tonnes. This historic performance places Burkina Faso among the heavyweights of gold production in West Africa.

This surge in production comes at just the right time for the country. With gold prices at an all-time high on international markets, the precious metal is becoming a valuable economic shield.

It is enabling the government to contain tensions arising from insecurity and to finance its national development strategy at a time when needs are immense.

Behind these figures lies a whole value chain that is being strengthened. The revenue generated by gold contributes directly to the state budget and fuels structural projects.

In 2024, mining products already accounted for 84% of the total value of exports, and this share is expected to rise further with the new volumes produced.

The government, led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso, does not intend to stop there.

The state continues to build up its national gold reserve, a strategy aimed at strengthening the financial sovereignty of the country in the face of global economic fluctuations.

The objective is to ensure that Burkinabe gold benefits the Burkinabe people first and foremost.
