Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré and the government’s initiatives for food self-sufficiency are bearing fruit

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is firmly committed to achieving food self-sufficiency. In the face of multiple challenges, including the security crisis and fluctuating climatic conditions, the government has taken decisive measures to strengthen national production.

The goal is to ensure lasting food security and reduce dependence on food imports. Support for local producers, the expansion of cultivated land, and the improvement of farming techniques are central to this policy.

The Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombié, plays a major role in this process.

Through his transformative actions, particularly the implementation of incentive programs for farmers, he has enabled a significant increase in agricultural yields.

Efforts to modernize agriculture, such as the distribution of improved seeds and the optimization of irrigation systems, are essential levers for the success of this transformation.

For the 2023 farming season, the forecasts are impressive. The country is expected to harvest a total of 2,415,739 tonnes of maize and 1,000,000 tonnes of rice unprecedented figures in the nation’s agricultural history.

These results are all the more remarkable as they are being achieved in a context where Burkina Faso faces major security challenges that impact farming areas.

This feat is a sign of Burkina Faso’s resilience and its commitment to fighting hunger.

The agricultural progress made under the guidance of President Ibrahim Traoré and Minister Ismaël Sombié demonstrates a strategic vision and a strong political will to secure the nation’s food future.
