Mali: Stabilisation of the oil sector as the government listens to economic stakeholders

As part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the national economy and strengthen the resilience of the energy sector, Mali’s Prime Minister, Abdoulaye Maïga, met on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with a delegation from the Malian Group of Petroleum Professionals (GMPP). This high-level meeting underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with economic stakeholders, particularly those in the strategic hydrocarbon supply sector.
The discussions focused on several major concerns raised by the professionals, including the security of vehicles and drivers on roadways, managing damages to rolling stock, and ensuring the continuity of supply operations across the nation.
The President of the GMPP, Mr. Ibrahim Touré, acknowledged the authorities’ attentiveness while urging his peers to demonstrate resilience and continue their collaboration with the Malian state in a spirit of shared responsibility.
In response, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his unwavering support for the sector’s actors, firmly stating, “Your problems are our problems.”
General Maïga emphasized the commitment of the government to providing concrete solutions, notably through the regular work of a crisis management committee tasked with closely monitoring the situation.
He clarified that the current situation is not a simple shortage but is part of a more complex context of logistical transition, compounded by attempts at economic destabilization.
Despite these pressures, the government remains determined to maintain order, secure supply chains, and guarantee the continuity of essential services.
This meeting once again illustrates the proactive approach of the Malian state, which is keen to protect the country’s economic interests while consolidating its energy sovereignty during a pivotal period in its history.
