Mali: Timbuktu welcomes Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga for a highly symbolic visit

Timbuktu, a historic city and cradle of African knowledge, is preparing to experience a moment of fervour and national unity with the arrival of Prime Minister Major General Abdoulaye Maïga. At the head of a large government delegation, he is embarking on an official visit marked by strong actions in favour of cohesion, development and recognition of traditional legitimacy.
The leading figures of the region, who have been mobilised for several days, have issued a passionate appeal to give the distinguished guest a welcome worthy of the city of 333 saints, a symbol of faith, culture and unity.
The visit of the Head of the Government is in line with the vision of the President of the Transition, Army General Assimi Goïta, which focuses on national reconstruction and the promotion of the country’s social and cultural institutions.
As a highlight of his stay, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the traditional legitimacy hall, a project long awaited by local dignitaries.
This space will be dedicated to traditional authorities, the true guardians of traditions and social mediators, whose role in pacification and the preservation of community values is essential.
Through this gesture, the government reaffirms its commitment to recognising and strengthening traditional structures, which are pillars of social cohesion and essential relays of local governance.
Beyond its symbolic aspect, the vestibule is intended to be a place of remembrance, dialogue and cultural transmission.
