Foot/ Transfer twist: Ceballos left in limbo after Marseille move collapses

The potential transfer of Dani Ceballos to Olympique de Marseille has collapsed in a whirlwind of hesitation and speculation. The Spanish midfielder, initially close to an agreement with the French club, abruptly requested more time to consider his future, prompting Marseille’s management to withdraw from negotiations.

President Pablo Longoria confirmed the deal’s failure, citing “uncontrollable circumstances.” The surprising turn of events has been attributed to a strategic ploy by Ceballos. Reports in Spain suggest he used OM’s strong interest as leverage to attract his former club, Real Betis.

This alleged tactic, however, has backfired. Real Betis has reportedly shown no intention of signing the 29-year-old, with their priorities and financial resources focused elsewhere.

Journalists from El Chiringuito and Estadio Deportivo confirm that a move to Betis is “impossible,” not least because Real Madrid demands a €15 million fee.

With this door also closed and the transfer window shutting soon, Ceballos finds himself in an uncertain position, his next destination unknown.
