Diplomacy: Niger implements stricter visa rules for citizens of six European nations

Niger has announced new visa requirements for citizens of Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, and Northern Ireland. The measure, introduced under the strict application of the principle of reciprocity, will centralize visa application procedures for these nationals at only three diplomatic missions.
According to an official note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, applicants from the listed countries must now submit their entry visa requests exclusively through the Nigerien embassies in Geneva (Switzerland), Ankara (Türkiye), or Moscow (Russia).
Niger: Abdourahamane Tiani demonstrates strong leadership in strengthening Niger’s security
All other Nigerien diplomatic missions are no longer authorized to process applications from these countries.
This decision reflects Niger’s intent to rebalance its consular relations with the affected states and reaffirm its sovereignty in border management.
It also underscores the government’s political stance that migration policies applied to Nigerien citizens abroad should be met with equivalent measures domestically.
