Basketball/Angola captures 12th AfroBasket title with dominant win over Mali

In a commanding performance before a sold-out home crowd, Angola reclaimed the AfroBasket championship on Sunday, defeating Mali 70–43 in the final. The victory marks Angola’s first title since 2013 and its record-extending 12th overall.

Playing in front of 12,700 fans at Kilamba Arena, the host nation never trailed, building a lead that exceeded 20 points by the third quarter.

Guard Childe Dundao led all scorers with 16 points and was later named tournament MVP. Selton Miguel added 12 points for the champions.

Mali, competing in its first-ever final, was held to just 43 points the lowest total in an AfroBasket title game in 30 years.

Siriman Kanoute and Aliou Diarra finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively, in the losing effort.

Angola completed the tournament with a perfect 6–0 record, while Mali finished 4–3.

In the third-place game, Senegal defeated Cameroon 98–72 to secure bronze for the third consecutive AfroBasket.
