The agreement highlights strategic sectors such as innovation, sustainable industry, energy transition, digital technology, agri-food and logistics.

It gives Togolese companies privileged access to the Japanese market, particularly in the Osaka region, while offering Japanese operators a better understanding of the Togolese market and the West African sub-region, where Togo plays a central role thanks to the Port of Lomé.

This initiative is part of Togo’s policy of opening up to Asia, following similar agreements with China, and strengthens economic ties between Lomé and Tokyo.

In 2023, trade between the two countries reached 5.39 billion yen, with Togolese exports dominated by sesame and non-ferrous metals, and Japanese imports consisting mainly of fibres and machinery.
