AES: Towards a confederal parliament, the AES takes a decisive step towards political integration

The strategic meeting held in Ouagadougou between parliamentarians and experts from the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) marks a decisive stage in the construction of a common political space.

By launching work on drafting the founding texts of the future confederal parliament, the member states are expressing their ambition to unify the voices of the Sahel around a sovereign, concerted and effective institutional framework.

This initiative embodies a strong political will to go beyond national divisions to build coherent regional governance, based on harmonised legislation and shared mechanisms.

The Confederal Parliament, which is in the process of being set up, will thus become the symbol of an accepted form of political integration, where the peoples of the Sahel will be able to meet, debate and take decisions together.

In line with the shared objectives of the AES, this approach strengthens the momentum towards legal and institutional convergence.

It paves the way for collective sovereignty, where each State retains its identity while contributing to a common vision.

It is a strategic step forward that confirms the commitment of the ESA’s leaders to building an autonomous, united and resolutely forward-looking political area.
