Bamako hosts the first AES Humanitarian Forum

Bamako is hosting the inaugural AES Humanitarian Ministers’ Forum (August 7-9), convening Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and regional partners to address the Sahel’s escalating crises.
Chaired by Transition President Assimi Goïta, the summit focuses on developing coordinated responses and sustainable funding mechanisms for the region’s complex humanitarian challenges.
Justice Minister Mahamadou Kassogué opened proceedings by revealing only 50% of Mali’s 2024 humanitarian needs were met, a shortfall mirrored across the Sahel.
“We must build context-specific solutions with proper funding,” he urged, calling for stronger international partnerships. Health Minister Dr. Colonel Assa Badialle Touré emphasized the forum’s role in strengthening regional solidarity, while humanitarian representatives stressed prioritizing protection for vulnerable groups.
Mauritania shared best practices in refugee assistance, highlighting the need for robust regional frameworks.
The landmark event aims to transform political commitments into concrete action, establishing sustainable mechanisms to support the Sahel’s most vulnerable populations amid persistent conflicts, food insecurity and displacement crises.
