Burkina Faso: Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo gives Minister Sorgho a mid-term review

The Minister of Infrastructure and Landlocked Development of Burkina Faso, Adama Luc Sorgho, presented his mid-term progress report during an evaluation meeting with Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo on August 5, 2025.

The assessment, part of the government’s performance tracking system, revealed that 44 out of 77 planned infrastructure projects had commenced satisfactorily by June 30, representing a 50.36% implementation rate.

Among the notable achievements, the ministry completed the access road to the Air Algérie crash memorial site, constructed new toll stations on key national highways, and made significant progress in rural connectivity with 740 kilometers of new rural roads built.

Road maintenance efforts covered 4,345 kilometers of existing routes, while urban infrastructure saw improvements with over 35 kilometers of city roads rehabilitated.

Minister Sorgho acknowledged financial constraints as a major challenge, revealing that some contractors had not been paid since January due to budget limitations.

He assured that his ministry was working closely with the Finance Ministry to resolve these payment delays.

With the rainy season underway, the minister emphasized heightened vigilance to prevent transportation disruptions across the country’s road network.

Looking ahead, Sorgho outlined plans for upcoming road, rail and highway projects in collaboration with international partners, reaffirming the government’s commitment to infrastructure development despite current challenges.

We remain fully engaged in strengthening national infrastructure and improving connectivity across Burkina Faso,” the minister stated, underscoring the administration’s determination to maintain momentum in the country’s development agenda.
