Burkina Faso / EPE: Efficiency and transparency, focusing on rigorous management of public assets

The 26th General Assembly of State-Owned Enterprises (EPEs) was held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Ouagadougou under the theme: “The Role of Inventory Accounting in the Efficient Management of State-Owned Enterprises’ Assets Amid Resource Scarcity.” The session was chaired by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel OUEDRAOGO, representing the President of Faso, and attended by several government officials, including Minister of Economy and Finance, Aboubacar NACANABO.

At the core of the assembly were the review and analysis of management reports and financial statements for 109 public institutions covering the 2024 fiscal year. The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the efforts made by EPEs in fulfilling their mandates despite numerous challenges. He commended the growing adherence to public management standards and encouraged leaders to further strengthen governance and transparency.

In a context of limited resources and increasing social demands, the need for strict management of public assets has become imperative. The Prime Minister emphasized that inventory accounting is a strategic tool for optimizing the use of state-owned property. This system aims to improve oversight, prevent losses, and enhance the performance of public institutions.

The session also highlighted the economic, security, and managerial challenges facing EPEs. It led to the adoption of resolutions and recommendations designed to serve as a roadmap for more efficient and sustainable management. Created in 2000, the AGEPE continues to serve as a platform for accountability and strategic governance, contributing to institutional development and the continuous improvement of public services. The 27th session is scheduled for July 2026.

In closing, the Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to stay committed to the reform agenda and work toward the effective implementation of the adopted recommendations to meet public expectations and strengthen trust in public institutions.
