Togo at the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament: A commitment to international cooperation and peace

Togo is actively participating in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, taking place in Geneva from July 29 to 31, 2025. This major event, held every five years, is organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in partnership with the United Nations. It brings together leaders of national parliaments from around the world to discuss global issues and international governance. Kodjo Sévon-Tépé Adedze, Speaker of the Togolese National Assembly, is representing the country at this gathering.
This year’s theme — “Parliaments in a world of turmoil: securing peace and development through dialogue and cooperation” — highlights the urgent need to strengthen ties between legislative bodies to address today’s complex global challenges.
The main goal of the conference is to promote international parliamentary cooperation for better global governance. In a world facing multiple crises, national parliaments must work together to advance peace, justice, and prosperity. Discussions will focus on practical solutions to these challenges, particularly in a context of growing multipolarity and geopolitical tensions. Lawmakers will explore ways to drive legislative reforms that enhance international collaboration.
This conference is a golden opportunity for Togo to strengthen its standing on the world stage. By taking an active part in the discussions, the country seeks to assert its role in parliamentary diplomacy and make its voice heard on critical global issues. Through its National Assembly Speaker, Togo aims to promote its priorities in sustainable development, human rights, and international security. The event also allows Togo to showcase the progress it has made in terms of governance and democracy.
In addition to the plenary sessions, several bilateral meetings are scheduled between the Togolese delegation and their counterparts from Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. These meetings are vital for establishing new partnerships and deepening diplomatic ties between parliaments. As an active member of the international community, Togo hopes to share its experience and learn from other nations’ best practices. The ultimate goal: to contribute to the continued growth of parliamentary diplomacy and to help build a more just and prosperous world.
