Burkina Faso: Nando region, a new governor for a new dynamic

The region of Nando, formerly known as the Centre-West, now officially has its Governor. On Friday, July 18, 2025, in Koudougou, the Minister of State and Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Mr. Emile ZERBO, presided over the formal installation ceremony of Mr. Adama Jean Yves BERE as head of the region. Until then, Mr. BERE had been serving in an interim capacity since his appointment during the Council of Ministers session held on June 4, 2025.
In his address, Minister ZERBO emphasized the strategic importance of the Nando region, which is at the heart of the President’s Stabilization and Development Action Plan (PA-SD), under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim TRAORE. He urged the new Governor to align his efforts with the objectives outlined in the plan, prioritizing economic development and the well-being of the population.
ZERBO also reiterated the core responsibilities assigned to all governors: representing the State, implementing public policies, coordinating decentralized services, safeguarding civil liberties and public order, ensuring security, and promoting administrative efficiency. In a spirit of unity, the Minister of State called on all local stakeholders to fully support Governor BERE in fulfilling his mission. He stressed the importance of close collaboration to achieve the region’s development goals.
Taking the floor, Mr. Adama Jean Yves BERE expressed his gratitude to the country’s highest authorities for the trust placed in him. Acknowledging the work of his predecessors, he pledged to continue their legacy, guided by values of listening, dialogue, and adherence to the rule of law. He stated that his tenure would be anchored in collegiality, solidarity, and teamwork.
The new Governor also issued a strong call to the population: to rally behind the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who stand on the front lines in securing and stabilizing the region.
