China expands visa-free policy to boost tourism

China has taken a major step in its tourism strategy by allowing citizens from 74 countries to enter visa-free for 30-day stays. The move covers nearly all of Europe, several Latin American nations, Uzbekistan, and four Middle Eastern states, aiming to revitalize the sector and enhance China’s global influence.

Early results are promising: flight and accommodation bookings have doubled since the start of the year, with 75% of visitors coming from newly exempted countries. Travelers like Georgi Shavadze welcome the change: “Visas were a headache now exploring China is easier.”

Tourism professionals, such as Jenny Zhao of WildChina, report a sharp rebound: “We’ve already matched 2024’s total revenue.” After a pandemic-driven slump, China is reclaiming its spot as a top global destination.
