Burkina Faso and Morocco strengthen counterterrorism Alliance through Elite paratrooper training

As Burkina Faso’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS) adapt to evolving terrorist threats, their strategic cooperation with Morocco has emerged as a model of South-South solidarity. A recent joint training program saw 200 Burkinabe paratroopers including 10 officers, 56 non-commissioned officers, and 134 enlisted personnel (two of them women) complete an intensive certification course with Morocco’s logistical and technical support.
The collaboration proved transformative: Morocco deployed 40 instructor officers and provided aircraft for jump exercises, significantly enhancing Burkina Faso’s operational readiness.
Beyond tactical skills, the initiative fostered a brotherhood-in-arms between the nations, reinforcing shared security objectives under President Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership.
This partnership reflects Traoré’s vision of building a resilient, professional military capable of defending national sovereignty.
The newly trained airborne units now stand better equipped to conduct coordinated counterterrorism operations a critical advancement as Burkina Faso works to stabilize vulnerable regions.
The program’s success underscores how targeted military diplomacy can yield immediate strategic dividends while deepening long-term alliances between African nations facing common security challenges.
