UNESCO silk roads youth photo contest celebrates Women as heritage Guardians

UNESCO has launched an international photography competition inviting young photographers aged 15 to 25 to capture the enduring legacy of the Silk Roads through the lens of “Women as Guardians of Heritage.” The contest, organized under UNESCO’s Silk Roads Programme, aims to highlight women’s crucial role in preserving and transmitting cultural traditions along these historic trade routes.
Participants will compete in two age categories: 14-17 and 18-24 years old. All entries must be original photographs in JPEG/JPG format with a minimum resolution of 1500 pixels (width for horizontal images or height for vertical images).
Each participant may submit between 1 and 20 photos, each accompanied by a descriptive caption. Notably, the use of artificial intelligence to create or significantly alter images is strictly prohibited.
The competition features attractive prizes for winners in each age group. First-place recipients will receive a professional camera, second-place winners a semi-professional camera, and third-place contestants a standard digital camera. The deadline for submissions is July 20.
This initiative not only provides young photographers with a platform to showcase their talent but also serves to document and celebrate the often-overlooked contributions of women in safeguarding cultural heritage along the ancient Silk Roads.
