Burkina Faso: Budget execution up sharply despite security challenges

Despite ongoing security challenges, Burkina Faso has demonstrated notable economic progress, with government activity implementation reaching 87.20% in 2024 a 3.12-point increase from 2023. Overall performance also improved, rising from 67.80% to 71.39%, reflecting stronger administrative efficiency.
Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo credited these gains to coordinated government efforts and highlighted continued momentum in 2025, with 31.27% of the Annual Work Plan already executed by March.
He urged further improvements in public policy coordination, noting recent reforms including an April 2025 decree restructuring the Prime Minister’s Office to streamline governance and decision-making.
The figures underscore Burkina Faso’s resilience in balancing security pressures with development commitments.
By strengthening planning and institutional frameworks, the government aims to sustain economic recovery and public service delivery amid instability.
