Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are advancing a collective vision for energy sovereignty under the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), as leaders Captain Ibrahim Traoré, General Abdourahme Tiani, and General Assimi Goïta push for integrated solutions to shared challenges.
At the inaugural AES energy regulatorsā summit in Bamako, Maliās Prime Minister Abdoulaye MaĆÆga emphasized the critical need for aĀ unified regional approachĀ to harness natural resourcesāincluding solar, wind, uranium, and hydrocarbonsāfor energy security and economic growth.
Key priorities :
- Joint infrastructure: Scaling cross-border energy exchanges and renewable integration
- Resource optimization: Maximizing solar, hydro, and fossil fuel potential
- Reduced dependence: Cutting technical losses and external reliance
“This unified policy turns energy into a strategic tool for sovereignty,” stated MaĆÆga, reflecting the AESās ambition to transform the Sahel into aĀ resilient, prosperous bloc.
The initiative marks another milestone in the AESās broader mission to foster self-reliance amid regional instability.
