Health/ Togo strengthens preventive measures against Lassa fever outbreak in West Africa

On February 26, the Togolese Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene issued an alert regarding confirmed cases of Lassa fever in several West African countries. While no cases have been detected in Togo, authorities have swiftly implemented precautionary measures to prevent any potential spread of the virus.
These measures include strengthening epidemiological surveillance, establishing an early warning system at border points, and preparing for the management of suspected cases.
To minimize the risk of transmission, the government urges citizens to adopt strict hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and proper food handling.
Additionally, people are advised to avoid contact with rodents, the primary carriers of the virus, and to promptly report any suspected cases to health officials.
Lassa fever presents with a range of symptoms, including fever, fatigue, headaches, muscle pain, and digestive issues.
Given the potential threat, public vigilance and collective cooperation are crucial in ensuring that the disease does not reach Togo.
