Chad/Russia: The authorities of both countries are in favour of strengthening their bilateral cooperation
A meeting between the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Chad, Vladimir Sokolenko, took place in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, on Wednesday 19 February 2025.
In addition to the message of congratulations sent to the head of Chadian diplomacy by his Russian counterpart on his recent appointment as head of this ministerial department, the two personalities discussed issues relating to bilateral cooperation.
According to reports, the discussions touched on a number of subjects of common interest.
These included the desire of the authorities in both countries to strengthen bilateral relations and the effective implementation of cooperation agreements between the two countries.
Since Chad’s political transition took place in April 2021, N’Djamena has become closer to the Russian Federation.
The Chadian President’s visit to Russia and that of Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov bear witness to this desire to strengthen bilateral relations.
After breaking off military cooperation with France, Russia is positioning itself as a potential strategic partner for Chad.
