Burkina Faso/ FESPACO 2025 Kicks off in Ouagadougou with adjusted work hours and enhanced security measures

The 29th edition of the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) officially opens on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Burkina Faso’s capital and will run until March 1, 2025. As one of Africa’s most prestigious cultural events, FESPACO brings together filmmakers, actors, and cinema enthusiasts from across the continent to celebrate African storytelling and creativity.

To ensure the smooth running of the festival, the Burkinabe government has introduced temporary adjustments to work hours in Ouagadougou.

In a statement issued on February 19, 2025, the Ministry of Public Service announced that daily working hours for both public and private sectors will be from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM during the festival week.

Employers and employees in sectors requiring continuous operations are encouraged to organize their schedules accordingly.

Security remains a top priority for the event, especially given Burkina Faso’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure public safety.

The Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana, recently reassured participants that all necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee a safe and peaceful environment.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between organizers, security forces, and the public to create a conducive atmosphere for celebrating African cinema.

This year’s FESPACO is not just a showcase of African films but also a testament to Burkina Faso’s resilience and commitment to promoting cultural exchange.
