The Togolese film industry is making waves at the 29th Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO 2025), set to take place from February 22 to March 1. This year, Togo has achieved a milestone with six national productions selected across various categories, marking its strongest presence yet at the prestigious event.
Adding to the excitement, emerging talent Dogossa Birregah has been chosen for the Yennenga Academy, a training and exchange program designed to nurture the next generation of African cinema stars.
This remarkable rise of Togo’s film industry is no accident. In December 2024, the country launched an ambitious five-year strategy to revitalize and structure its cultural sector.
The plan focuses on enhancing the skills of industry professionals and increasing the international visibility of Togolese works, positioning cinema as a driver of development and economic growth.
Togo’s Minister of Culture, Yawa Kouigan, praised the dedication and hard work of the country’s filmmakers, whose efforts have firmly placed Togo on the map as a rising force in African cinema.
As the nation prepares to captivate audiences and juries at FESPACO 2025, its growing presence signals a bright future for Togolese storytelling on the global stage.
