Togo empowers vulnerable women with National Identity documents on International Women’s Day 2025

In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, the Togolese government has launched a groundbreaking initiative to enhance the social and economic inclusion of vulnerable women.

Under the national theme, “Access to Identity Documents for Women: A Pathway to Greater Participation in Development,” the campaign addresses a critical barrier to women’s empowerment: the lack of civil registration documents, which are essential for exercising fundamental rights.

As part of this effort, a special operation has been introduced to provide 1,000 women from the informal sector and women’s groups with birth certificates through supplementary judgments.

This initiative will enable these women to access vital services such as healthcare, education, financial resources, and active citizenship.

To ensure equitable coverage across the country, 200 women from each of Togo’s five regions will be selected to receive their supplementary judgments free of charge.

This initiative is part of a broader policy aimed at promoting administrative and social inclusion, breaking down barriers that hinder women’s progress.

By equipping these women with legal documents, Togo is taking a significant step toward building a more equitable and inclusive society, where every woman can fully contribute to national development.

This effort underscores the government’s commitment to empowering Togolese women, ensuring they have the tools needed for autonomy and active participation in the country’s economic and social life.
