AES: The Alliance of Sahel States moves toward a unified community visa

Experts from the Confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) convened in Bamako on February 1–2, 2025, to advance discussions on a major initiative: the creation of a unified community visa for Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

This initiative builds on the region’s ongoing integration efforts, following the adoption of the confederal passport in November 2024.

Named the Liptako Visa, this measure aims to streamline travel within member states by simplifying administrative procedures for travelers, investors, and economic stakeholders.

By removing bureaucratic barriers, AES seeks to boost trade, enhance regional attractiveness, and promote intra-regional tourism.

Beyond facilitating mobility, this project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the sovereignty of AES nations.

By managing migration flows while reinforcing security cooperation, the Liptako Visa aspires to establish a thriving economic and cultural space, fostering development and prosperity.

With this initiative, AES reaffirms its commitment to building a united, self-reliant, and forward-looking region, where the movement of people and opportunities occurs within a secure and harmonized framework.
