Radja Nainggolan arrested in Belgium: Ex-International linked to cocaine trafficking probe

Former Belgian international Radja Nainggolan has been linked to a major drug trafficking investigation in Belgium, leading to his arrest on Monday. The 36-year-old, who recently returned to professional football with Belgian second-division side Lokeren, was detained alongside several other suspects during a series of nationwide police raids.

Authorities allege the case involves the smuggling of cocaine from South America to Europe through Antwerp’s port, followed by its distribution within Belgium.

While the Brussels prosecutor’s office confirmed the investigation, details remain scarce.

Nainggolan’s arrest comes less than a week after his return to football, where he made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut in Lokeren’s 1-1 draw against K. Lierse.

Born in Antwerp, the midfielder rose to prominence during his career in Serie A, where he represented Roma and Inter Milan. He also earned 30 caps for Belgium between 2009 and 2018.

The news marks a sharp turn for the player, once celebrated for his tenacity on the pitch. Nainggolan’s involvement in the case has shocked fans and cast a shadow over his recent attempt to revive his career in his homeland.
