Burkina Faso advances in textile development with CNATAC project

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo recently visited the construction site of the National Support Center for the Artisanal Transformation of Cotton (CNATAC) in Bobo-Dioulasso, a project poised to revolutionize the country’s textile industry.

The visit allowed the Prime Minister to assess the progress of this strategic initiative, which aims to transform Burkina Faso’s cotton sector into a cornerstone of the national economy.

A Vision for cotton transformation and skill development

The CNATAC is designed to serve as both a training hub and a transformation center, with a dual purpose: enhancing the value of Burkina Faso’s cotton—commonly referred to as “white gold”—and equipping local artisans with the skills needed to thrive in the textile industry.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to invigorate key economic sectors while empowering stakeholders along the cotton value chain.

For the Prime Minister, the CNATAC reflects the country’s commitment to building a resilient and inclusive local economy.

It is a tangible example of how targeted investments in strategic industries can drive sustainable growth.

Catalysing growth in the cotton sector

The center is expected to play a pivotal role in converting raw cotton into finished products like textiles and garments, thereby increasing the sector’s competitiveness in regional and international markets.

By integrating comprehensive training programs, the CNATAC will also pass on both traditional and modern expertise to a new generation of artisans, laying the foundation for a dynamic and innovative textile industry.

Residents of Bobo-Dioulasso, long regarded as the heart of Burkina Faso’s cotton production, view the CNATAC as a beacon of economic opportunity and job creation. The community’s warm reception of the Prime Minister during his visit underscored their optimism and anticipation.

Government Commitment to textile industry Growth

During the visit, Prime Minister Ouédraogo reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the textile sector across all dimensions.

As construction progresses, the CNATAC is expected to emerge as a symbol of Burkina Faso’s efforts to harness its natural resources, create jobs, and foster economic resilience.
