Burkina Faso: China reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and development efforts of President Ibrahim Traoré

The People’s Republic of China, through its ambassador, Lu Shan, has reiterated its unwavering support for Burkina Faso in its pursuit of sovereignty and development under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré.

During a meeting on January 21, 2025, with Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, Ambassador Lu Shan praised the country’s positive trajectory and highlighted opportunities for strengthening bilateral ties.

“The Sino-Burkinabe collaboration is full of promise, marking a new phase of cooperation since the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC),” he stated.

This strategic partnership is built around tangible projects in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Additionally, China has acknowledged Burkina Faso’s efforts to uphold its territorial integrity and sovereignty amidst ongoing challenges.

Ambassador Lu Shan affirmed China’s resolute commitment, saying, “China will steadfastly support Burkina Faso’s initiatives to reclaim its territorial integrity.”

In turn, China expressed appreciation for Burkina Faso’s endorsement of the One-China policy on the international stage, reinforcing a bond of mutual respect and strategic cooperation.

This partnership reflects the shared commitment of both nations to fostering progress and solidarity for a shared future.
