Saudi Arabia eyes Mo Salah in record-breaking move

Saudi Arabian football chiefs are intensifying efforts to lure Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah to Al-Hilal with an eye-watering £65 million offer for just two seasons. The potential move would mark another high-profile acquisition by the Saudi Pro League (SPL) as it seeks to elevate its global status.

Turki Alalshikh, a key figure in Saudi sports and entertainment and a close ally of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, further fueled speculation by sharing an image of Salah in an Al-Hilal shirt.

Alalshikh, who chairs the Kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority, is reportedly instrumental in orchestrating Al-Hilal’s ambitious bid to secure Salah ahead of this summer’s expanded FIFA Club World Cup, where the Riyadh-based club will compete.

With FIFA granting participating teams an extra transfer window in June, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is expected to back the high-stakes approach.

Salah’s uncertain contract situation at Liverpool—coupled with his recent comments hinting at a potential departure—has increased speculation about his future.

The 32-year-old Egyptian winger has been in scintillating form, leading the Premier League in goals and assists this season. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has scored 232 goals, won multiple domestic and international trophies, and become an icon for Muslim football fans worldwide.

A move to the SPL would not only underscore Saudi Arabia’s financial muscle but also elevate the league’s global appeal with the signing of one of the game’s biggest stars.
