Football/ Egypt to make CHAN debut after CAF Invitation
For the first time in its history, Egypt will participate in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after accepting an invitation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The competition, set to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, will see Egypt field its U20 team.
A Strategic Move by CAF
With 19 nations already qualified, CAF sought two additional teams to complete the lineup for CHAN 2024. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA), initially hesitant to join the qualifiers, reversed its decision following a proposal from CAF.
On Saturday, EFA spokesperson Helmy Tolan confirmed the decision during an interview with DMC, calling it a valuable opportunity for Egypt’s young talents.
“Participating in CHAN is a great chance for this team to gain experience,” Tolan remarked, highlighting the developmental potential of the tournament.
Eyes on the Group Stage Draw
The group stage draw for CHAN 2024 is scheduled for January 15, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya. With Egypt joining the fray, fans eagerly await how the U20 squad will perform on a stage traditionally reserved for senior players from local leagues.
This marks a significant moment for Egyptian football, as the nation embraces its first CHAN appearance after seven editions.
