Foot/ Premier League: Manchester City secures Vitor Reis to bolster defensive woes

Manchester City is poised to make a key addition to its squad with the imminent signing of Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. At just 19 years old, Reis is set to join the reigning Premier League champions in a deal reportedly worth €40 million, according to Sky Germany. This move highlights City’s urgency to address its defensive struggles this season.

Defensive Reinforcements a Priority

Pep Guardiola has openly acknowledged his team’s challenges, particularly in defense and midfield. “From the start of the season, it’s been the defense and midfield. Up front, we’re more or less fine, but defensively, we’ve struggled all season,” Guardiola said recently.

These issues have contributed to City’s current sixth-place position in the league, well off their usual title-contending form.

While Vitor Reis looks set to be the first addition, City is also eyeing other reinforcements. Abdukodir Khusanov of Lens has been linked to bolster the defense, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush is reportedly a target for attacking depth. However, Guardiola remained cautious, stating, “The club hasn’t announced anything. I don’t know.”

Beating the Competition

Securing Reis represents a significant coup for Manchester City, as the club reportedly fended off interest from Real Madrid to land the promising talent.

Final details are expected to be resolved soon, with the player awaiting his medical before signing the contract. Guardiola will hope Reis’ arrival marks the turning point in a challenging season for the Skyblues.
