Togo explores financial support for low-Income private sector pensioners

In a bid to strengthen social policies and address the needs of vulnerable groups, President Faure Gnassingbé has directed the government to conduct a comprehensive study on an innovative initiative: financial assistance for private sector retirees whose pensions fall below the Guaranteed Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMIG).

This proposed measure reflects the government’s commitment to reducing social inequalities and enhancing the living standards of the most disadvantaged.

By targeting retirees in the private sector with insufficient monthly incomes, the initiative seeks to ensure a basic standard of living that can cover essential needs.

A step toward inclusive social policy

The planned study will focus on outlining the implementation framework for this financial support, considering budgetary constraints and the unique characteristics of the intended beneficiaries.

This effort underscores the Togolese authorities’ determination to promote inclusive social policies and address disparities in a rapidly evolving society.

Impact on families and trust in governance

If implemented, the measure could significantly alleviate the financial burdens of many households while strengthening public trust in the state’s commitment to equitable social welfare.

It represents another step toward building a cohesive, forward-looking Togo, where the well-being of all citizens remains a central priority.
