Football/ Marcus Rashford sparks controversy over public statements and attitude
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has come under scrutiny following his omission from the squad in Thursday’s League Cup clash against Tottenham. The controversy deepened after Rashford’s recent public statements, which have been criticized by football pundits for their potential impact on his career and the club’s position.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expressed disapproval of Rashford’s remarks. “This puts the club in a very bad position in terms of negotiating his departure at some point,” Carragher said.
“If he truly wants to remain a Manchester United player and have a great career, you don’t make a statement like that. You stay quiet, fight for your place, and hope for a chance to prove yourself.”
Carragher pointed to Thursday’s match against Tottenham as an example of an opportunity Rashford could have capitalized on to impress manager Erik ten Hag.
Jamie Redknapp, another former Liverpool player, echoed Carragher’s sentiments but took the critique further, questioning Rashford’s on-field commitment. “What would concern any club or potential suitor is his attitude on the pitch. We saw it last season—at times, he wasn’t running. He needs to rediscover his love for football,” Redknapp remarked.
As questions arise about Rashford’s attitude and future at Manchester United, the 27-year-old star faces mounting pressure to turn his performances and public image around.
