League Cup: Arsenal, Newcastle, and Liverpool Secure Semi-Final Spots
The League Cup quarter-finals kicked off with thrilling encounters, as Arsenal, Newcastle, and Liverpool secured their places in the semi-finals on Tuesday night.
At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal overcame a shaky start against Crystal Palace. The visitors struck first through Jean-Philippe Mateta, but the Gunners responded emphatically.
Gabriel Jesus stole the spotlight with a stunning hat-trick, turning the tide in Arsenal’s favor.
Despite a late goal from Eddie Nketiah adding drama, Mikel Arteta’s side held on for a 3-2 victory and a spot in the final four.
Meanwhile, Newcastle cruised past Brentford in a dominant display at St James’ Park. Sandro Tonali delivered a brace, while Fabian Schär added a third to seal a 3-1 win.
The Magpies looked composed throughout, leaving little room for Brentford to mount a comeback.
Liverpool also advanced after a strong showing against Southampton at St Mary’s. Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott put the Reds ahead in the first half.
Cameron Archer pulled one back for Southampton in the second half, but Jürgen Klopp’s side remained in control to secure a 2-1 victory.
The last quarter-final, a blockbuster clash between Tottenham and Manchester United, is scheduled for Wednesday.
With the semi-finals now in sight, the remaining teams are poised to battle for a shot at League Cup glory.
