Bridging continents: Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to host historic 2030 World Cup

The FIFA Congress has officially designated Morocco, Portugal, and Spain as the hosts for the 2030 World Cup, marking a historic joint venture between Africa and Europe. This unprecedented decision, confirmed during an extraordinary virtual session led by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, underscores the unity of three nations collaborating for a global event.

This announcement also commemorates the centenary of the World Cup with matches set in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, honoring the tournament’s origins. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has secured hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup.

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, expressed deep gratitude to the 211 member associations for supporting the tri-nation bid, highlighting the international representation as a symbol of inclusivity.

He credited Morocco’s progress under King Mohammed VI’s vision, emphasizing that this milestone reinforces football’s role as a socio-economic driver.

The “Yalla Vamos 2030” bid was praised in FIFA’s evaluation report, receiving a score of 4.2 out of 5 for surpassing the organizational requirements. The bid features 20 proposed stadiums—six in Morocco, three in Portugal, and 11 in Spain—offering flexibility and iconic venues like Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Camp Nou in Barcelona, and the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca for pivotal matches.

With this selection, the 2030 World Cup is set to bridge continents, celebrating football’s universal appeal and historical roots while showcasing the combined capabilities of three culturally rich nations.
