Togo: Launch of the Digital Transformation Fund to boost digitisation in the WAEMU

In Lomé, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the German development bank KfW have officially launched the Digital Transformation Fund (FTD), a strategic initiative aimed at advancing the digitalization efforts in the WAEMU region.

After years of preparation, this project, which has been in development since 2020, was introduced by Moustapha Ben Barka, Vice-President of the BOAD. The FTD is envisioned as an innovative financial tool to support the digital transformation of public administrations across the eight UEMOA member countries.

The fund’s primary goal is to modernize technological infrastructures, create efficient information systems, and promote digital solutions tailored to the needs of local populations.

With flexible and adaptable funding, the FTD will address the specific priorities of each country to ensure maximum impact.

During the launch event, Moustapha Ben Barka emphasized, « The FTD represents our collective ambition to build modern administrations that can effectively meet the evolving needs of our people in a rapidly changing world. »

In Togo, the initiative aligns with the country’s national digital transformation strategy. Togo has prioritized digitalization as a key area of development, aiming to modernize its public services.

With support from the Ministry of Digitalization and Togo Digital Agency, significant reforms are underway, targeting the digitalization of 75% of public services by 2025.

The FTD offers a valuable opportunity to strengthen these efforts and accelerate digital integration across the UEMOA region, fostering resilient, connected economies for the future.
