Mali: Army General Assimi GOÏTA’s fight against corruption, a pillar for national prosperity and social justice

Mali’s transitional leadership, spearheaded by General Assimi Goïta, is making strides in the fight against corruption, aiming to establish transparent governance and equitable resource management.

During the presentation of the 2023 annual report by “the Office Central de Lutte contre l’Enrichissement Illicite (OCLEI) (Central Office for Combating Illicit Enrichment) at the Koulouba Palace last week, the President of the Transition reaffirmed his commitment to building a nation rooted in fairness and accountability”.

The event, attended by key political and administrative figures, underscored the progress made under Goïta’s leadership, including the adoption of a new constitution and the implementation of a National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

These reforms are bolstered by digitalization of public services and the establishment of specialized agencies to investigate economic offenses.

The OCLEI report highlighted both challenges and achievements. While a decline in asset declarations remains a concern, six significant cases have been referred to the judiciary, marking progress in holding individuals accountable.

General Goïta commended these efforts and backed the proposal to construct a dedicated headquarters for OCLEI, aligning with his vision of strengthening public institutions as pillars of sustainable development.

Goïta’s administration emphasizes integrity and collective responsibility as key drivers of a reimagined Mali, dubbed Mali Kura. By tackling illicit practices head-on, the transitional government aspires to create a nation where public resources are managed for the benefit of all citizens.

This anti-corruption campaign is positioned as the foundation for national prosperity and social justice, symbolizing a decisive break from the practices of the past.
