Togo: Universal Health Insurance, a concrete commitment from President Faure Gnassingbé for the people of Togo
Launched in January 2024 under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, Togo’s Universal Health Insurance (AMU) program continues to make significant strides. The government is steadfast in its mission to ensure affordable and quality healthcare for all citizens.
A national seminar held in Kpalimé from November 26 to 28 brought together representatives from key ministries and institutions to deepen their understanding of the principles and benefits of the AMU.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Healthcare Access and Health Coverage, the seminar aimed to equip stakeholders with the knowledge needed for a smooth and effective implementation of the initiative.
A Truly inclusive initiative
Minister Jean-Marie Koffi Tessi emphasized the program’s universal nature, designed to include all social groups—from public servants and self-employed workers to the most vulnerable populations.
The National Health Insurance Institute (INAM) and the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) are central to managing beneficiary enrollment and coverage.
Additionally, the SSEQCU project plays a vital role in coordinating efforts to raise awareness and educate stakeholders, ensuring the AMU achieves its goal of comprehensive health coverage.
Transforming Togo’s Healthcare System
This groundbreaking policy is reshaping the Togolese healthcare landscape by prioritizing equitable access to medical services.
As the AMU becomes an integral part of citizens’ lives, it represents a significant step toward improving living standards and promoting social welfare across the nation.
Togo’s commitment to universal health coverage highlights its determination to build a healthier and more inclusive future for all.
